Maverick – Hixon Motor Sports’ Justin Piscitell ended his Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich® Tires season on a high note with a third-place podium result at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Trending upward throughout the 2020 season, the Maverick program secured their first podium of the season at the final race boosting the team’s momentum heading into the off season and onwards into 2021. Additionally, Justin’s climb to the podium netted him Hard Charger honors for race two in St. Pete.

Fresh off of being awarded the 2020 Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires Rookie of the Year title on the streets of St. Petersburg, JTR Motorsports Engineering is excited to announce the expansion to a multi-car team for the 2021 season.

Having closed out the Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires championship with an exciting double header in St. Petersburg, series officials have revealed an expanded championship calendar schedule that will see Mazda MX-5 Cup racers visit iconic race tracks across North America.

After an intense season that ended just 92 days after it started, it was a pressure filled and action packed final day of the 2020 Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires season with two races to determine the championship on Saturday. And to cap off the day, the paddock population packed up, made a quick change of clothes, and headed to the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg to celebrate the season and honor the champions.

After six Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires event weekends, 12 races, and 314 laps of hard-fought competition, it came down to just a matter of seconds and a handful of points to determine the 2021 champion.
