Rounds Three and Four of the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires take place at the only street course on the 2022 schedule: The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. After a rainy season opener at Daytona International Raceway, the drivers are looking forward to a warm and sunny event by the ocean.

Joining Copeland Motorsports late in the 2021 season and taking part in an extensive test program, Max Opalski is now set to take on his first ever street race in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich® Tires. Racing at the Daytona International Speedway for the first two wheel-to-wheel races of 2022, Opalski will now take on the barrier lined circuit at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg as he completes alongside the NTT INDYCAR Series.

After a successful season opener that saw Hixon Motor Sports (HMS) drivers at the front of the field, the five-driver program is packed and ready to go again this week at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Competing on the legendary street course in the scenic downtown core of St. Petersburg, Florida, HMS drivers will look to carry the momentum gained from Daytona a few hours north and fight their way to the top step of the podium.

The non-stop excitement of Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires racing at Daytona International Speedway was slowed by three lengthy full-course yellows on Friday. But it was with Jared Thomas (No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering) taking the win in Round Two of the 2022 championship as the race ended under a full-course caution.

Teams in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires had to contend with a wet Daytona International Raceway to kick off the 2022 season. In typical MX-5 Cup fashion, the 45-minute race came down to a four-wide, door-to-door sprint to the finish line. That sprint was won by Tyler Gonzalez (No. 51 Copeland Motorsports).
