As one of only two drivers in the field to have previously raced Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup at Barber Motorsports Park, Tyler Gonzalez (No. 57 BSi Racing) put the lessons he learned five years ago at the picturesque Alabama circuit to claim a robust third victory of the season in Saturday’s Round Five race.

After two long months since the checkered flag flew in St. Pete, the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin is back in action this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. The lush 2.38-mile Alabama circuit has not hosted the series since 2019, which means few drivers on the current grid have the experience of racing Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup there.

A well-timed pass on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida helped Tyler Gonzalez (No. 57 BSI Racing) secure the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin Round Four race win. An expertly timed restart contributed to Nathan Nicholson (No. 56 Advanced Autosports) finishing in the runner-up position.

Experience played a key factor in Round Three of the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Saturday. The podium was composed of drivers with plenty of experience at the street circuit. Jared Thomas (No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering) led the way to the checkered flag, followed by teammate Glenn McGee (No. 69 JTR Motorsports Engineering) and Nathan Nicholson (No. 56 Advanced Autosports).
