The IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona Speedway was an incredible start to the 2022 season for the Formidable Racing Development team. The team leaves the paddock at Daytona with Chris Nunes in 2nd place in the overall in the championship points, and Joey Atanasio in 2nd place in Rookie of the year. They are all looking forward to rolling into St Petersburg.

“Having a solid race car with Garrett Thomas and Ben Rudy wrenching on my car and having a duo like Chris Smith and John Dean working with me on my car set up and race strategy was the key to my success this past weekend. I just had a blast racing in the rain during the first race. I am excited to get to the next race at St Petersburg. It will be a lot of fun racing in the streets with all the fans there,” Chris Nunes said.

As they prepare for St Petersburg, Joey and Chris will be doing a lot of physical and mental training over the next few weeks to prepare themselves to continue their success.  The two racers have developed a close bond which they believe will be a strong asset racing against the talented road racers that are racing the MX5 cup series in 2022.

Joey Atanasio stated, “I was a little nervous going into Daytona. I didn’t get to practice the track prior to the race like a lot of the other drivers did so I wasn’t sure how I would do. Once I got out on the track, my car felt great and I knew I could race hard and finish strong.”

Chris Nunes at the age of 19 finished the rainy first race with a 2nd place finish.  The second day under a lot of yellow flags, he finished 4th. Joey Atanasio at the age of 17, had the fastest lap time in practice 2, and a 3rd place podium in his first weekend as a Rookie. Overall, the Formidable Racing Develop team is off to a great 2022 race season.
