SAVANNAH, Ga. (Dec. 2, 2020) – Michael Carter will be returning to the Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires in 2021 to defend his Championship Title. He will be utilizing the $200,000 scholarship to return to the series with family owned team, Carter Racing Enterprises, driving the familiar No. 08 car. The Carters are looking to carry their momentum into the 2021 season opener in Daytona.
“I am really excited to be returning to the Mazda MX-5 Cup series for next season,” said Carter, who had 8 podiums and 3 wins en route to his Championship. “After looking at options for what was next for us, it just made sense to come back to the MX-5 Cup series. I think it is awesome that we will be racing under the IMSA banner next year and I cannot wait to see what this will do for our series. Most of all, I am really looking forward to getting back on the track at Daytona and beginning the quest to defend our Championship.”
During the 2020 season Carter Racing Enterprises fielded the car for Michael Carter to win the Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship and provided support for 2019 Mazda Shootout winner, Jared Thomas, who won Rookie of the Year honors.

In 2021, Carter Racing Enterprises will continue running Michael’s car out of our shop here in Savannah, Georgia. We also have the ability to provide support or create a technical alliance for one more car if the right opportunity comes about.”
Carter Racing Enterprises will begin the season with a test at Daytona International Speedway on December 12th. The 2021 Mazda MX-5 Cup season officially kicks off back at Daytona on January 28th during the Rolex 24 race weekend.
