August 15, 2024 – Fresh off a podium result at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP) north of the border in Canada, rookie competitor Julian DaCosta will be back on track, aiming for more soon. Set to battle in the ultra-competitive Whelen MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin, the Austin Hatcher Foundation / JTR Motorsports Engineering rookie will look to continue that momentum at the VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) over the August 23-25 weekend.
“I am anxious to get going and see what we can do at VIR,” explained DaCosta. “Being on the podium in Canada was great, especially coming from as far back in the field as I did, but it has only made me hungrier for more. The minute I crossed under the checkered flag, I was ready to go again!”
Currently tenth in the Whelen MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin Championship point standings, Julian DaCosta is third in the Rookie of the Year chase and looks for a strong weekend at VIR. With a strong race at the Alton, Virginia-based facility in 2023, hopes are high for continued success. This weekend marks the 11th and 12th rounds of the 14-race program.
DaCosta continued, “My goal going into VIR is to continue the momentum from our second-place finish in Canada. I’ve been to VIR several times, so I know the track well and expect to give a strong performance. With an awesome team behind me, I will do my best to get JTR and the Austin Hatcher Foundation back on the podium.”
With support from the Austin Hatcher Foundation, and HatcherFoundation.org, an organization dedicated to providing free counseling and therapeutic support to families battling cancer, DaCosta is aiming high in Virginia.
