With six drivers already carrying the Hixon Motor Sports (HMS) banner at the most recent race, a new driver has been added for the upcoming event at the VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) and onwards through the 2022 season. Joining HMS will be Brazilian racer Bruno Smielevski, who comes with a long list of accomplishments; he looks to add Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires (Mazda MX-5 Cup) race winner to his colorful resume of his lifetime motorsports results.

“We welcome Bruno to the HMS family and can’t wait to have him on track, and at the top of the results sheets,” explained Bryan Hixon. “Bruno’s resume speaks volumes of his skills and natural abilities, and I am confident that he will be a valuable addition to our race-winning program.”

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to compete in the United States, especially in a program that is as competitive as the Mazda MX-5 Cup,” expressed Bruno Smielevski. “I hope that I can make my family, my partners and most importantly, my new team proud and celebrate with them and my teammates great success and new milestones.”

Competing in the karting ranks in Brazil, Smielevski has moved through the motorsports ladder into car racing several years ago. As a multi-time karting champion, Bruno took his talents to the United States where he competed in the largest national programs. Back to Brazil in 2020, Bruno has been seen at the front of the grid in the Endurance Brazil program, where he has been a threat for race wins and podium results, for the past several seasons. More recently, Bruno tested with the Carlin Motorsport program in a British Formula 4 car in the United Kingdom. Racing everything from competitive karting to 260 horsepower cars, Bruno brings a load of experience and knowledge with him to Hixon Motor Sports despite being very young in age.

Hixon added, “We are truly an international program, and Bruno is just another piece to our winning puzzle. We have claimed wins with two drivers this season and podium results with four different drivers. Our roster of teammates think that Bruno could be right up there with some of the best Mazda MX-5 Cup drivers in the country.”

Team Manager Shea Holbrook added, “Bruno is coming to us with a ton of experience but a lot of the tracks we race at will be new to him. I believe he is a quick study and will be on pace relatively early and that is one thing that we are most excited about. Bruno has a specialty in absorbing coaching and then applying his on-track homework. We are confident that our HMS Coach Andrew Carbonell will bring Smielevski up to race pace by the time the green flag drops for qualifying at VIR.”

The next event for the Mazda MX-5 Cup series will take place over the August 26-28 weekend in Alton, Virginia.
