January 13, 2026 – Showing their commitment to fighting for the title in 2026, JTR Motorsports is pleased to announce that Gresham Wagner has joined the team and will drive the #5 JTR Motorsports–prepared Mazda as the organization strengthens its lineup ahead of the upcoming Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup season.
Wagner brings an impressive and proven résumé to JTR Motorsports, highlighted by his sweep of the 2024 Toyota GR Cup North America and Mazda MX-5 Cup Championships. Since 2019, Wagner has been a consistent front-runner in the Mazda MX-5 Cup program, earning multiple race wins across several seasons, nearly 15 to his credit, along with more than 40 podium results, establishing himself as one of the most competitive drivers in the paddock. In addition to his success in single-make competition, Wagner is also a race winner in the Pirelli GT4 America Series, further demonstrating his versatility and ability to perform across multiple platforms.
Across the last five seasons, Wagner’s results have showcased both consistency and winning capability, with regular podium contention and race victories placing him among the top drivers in the North American single make Mazda series. His combination of experience, race craft, and championship pedigree immediately elevates JTR Motorsports’ competitiveness heading into the 2026 season.
“I’m extremely excited to join JTR Motorsports and get our success together started right away,” explained the multi-time winner Gresham Wagner. “This is a proven team that’s hungry to win and has set themselves up for a promising year. Daytona is always the place to make a statement, and my goal is simple—to bring JTR Motorsports to the top of the results and set the tone for the season.”
“Gresham is the kind of driver who instantly becomes a threat for victory, especially at a place like Daytona with his experience,” added Dave Thomas, Team Manager of JTR Motorsports. “He’s a champion, a proven race winner in MX-5 Cup, Toyota GR Cup, and GT4, and he brings the experience and confidence needed to compete at the front. We’re thrilled to have him in the #5 car and believe he gives us a real opportunity to fight for wins right out of the gate.”
With Wagner behind the wheel, JTR Motorsports enters Daytona’s opening rounds with an instant contender for victory, as preparations intensify for one of the most competitive starts to the Mazda MX-5 Cup season.
The 2026 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup season will officially begin with the first two wheel-to-wheel races of the year at Daytona International Speedway, taking place January 21–23 during the famed Rolex 24 at Daytona weekend.
