As a competitor in the Spec MX-5 Challenge, and current Mazda Motorsports USA Club Racing Factory driver, Alex Berg (pictured far left) will join Hixon Motor Sports (HMS) at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Making his Pro Debut in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires at the Motul Petit Le Mans event in Braselton, Georgia, from November 11 – 12. Berg will pilot a Hixon Motor Sports Mazda MX-5 Cup car and will be partnering with DAE Systems, Penn Elcom, and Jevitty.

Alex Berg stated that “this is really a dream come true for me. If you would’ve told me last year today that I will be making my IMSA Pro debut in MX-5 Cup, I would not have believed you.”

Alex is the son of retired Canadian Formula One driver, Allen Berg. Not only does Alex have racing in his bloodline but also has learned much of the business side of racing from his father while growing up. Alex, now 15 years-old, frequently helps out his father with his racing school program, Allen Berg Racing Schools. (www.allenbergracingschools.com). It is an admirable trait that Alex uses only the knowledge he’s gained from his father, and he does not rely on his family for funding his racing career.

“Berg drove with HMS at a recent test at Road Atlanta and showed his talent behind the wheel running lap times very closely to Selin Rollan. Running with Rollan is a high benchmark and gets me excited to watch Alex drive at the championship event next week,” commented HMS Team Manager, Shea Holbrook.

HMS car chief, Scott Michael, from the recent HMS test had this to say about Berg: “He definitely has speed, and he’s willing to learn and explore the limits of the car.”

“I want to thank Mazda Motorsports for supporting me throughout the 2021 Spec MX-5 Challenge Series. After winning the Spec MX-5 Club Racing Factory Team Scholarship, it changed my life. I have grown so much just in this past year.

I would also like to thank Bryan Hixon and Shea Holbrook for making this opportunity possible. I am so grateful for the time and effort they spent with me on putting a deal together,” expressed Berg.

HMS Team Owner, Bryan Hixon, speaks highly of Alex Berg and said, “Berg surprised me with his professionalism and maturity for only being 14 when we met. I was very impressed knowing Alex was chosen as a 2021 Mazda MX-5 Cup Shootout Finalist and thrilled to know Alex chose HMS to get his race car prepared and ready. I believe he will be a formidable opponent at the upcoming championship weekend.”

Alex continued: “Thank you to my partners: Jeremy Morrison, with DAE Systems from Claremont, North Carolina; Phil Stratford, with Penn Elcom, from Garden Grove, California; and Jerry Kroll with Jevitty, from Vancouver, B.C. Canada!”
