January 26, 2026 — Jeremy Fletcher launched his 2026 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin campaign in winning fashion, capturing his first victory of the season at Daytona International Speedway and immediately setting the tone for his title defense. The weekend also delivered a rare honor, as Fletcher was invited by Mazda Motorsports to compete in the HSR IMSA Classic, driving the iconic 1991 Mazda RX-7 GTO from the Mazda Motorsports Heritage Collection.
The 3.56-mile, 12-turn Daytona road course set the stage for Rounds 1 and 2 of the MX-5 Cup season, contested alongside the iconic Rolex 24 At Daytona weekend. McCumbee McAleer Racing arrived with speed immediately, as Fletcher put the #22 Mazda MX-5 on pole to open the season, establishing the team as a frontrunner from the very first green flag of 2026.
Race 1 saw Fletcher’s strong start cut short after contact ended his run. Refusing to let the setback define his weekend, Fletcher mounted a determined comeback in Race 2, battling at the front of the field before executing a hard-fought drive to victory and claiming his first win of the new season.
“This was a huge way to start the year,” commented Fletcher. “We showed pace all weekend, and after what happened in Race 1, it meant a lot to come back and get the win. The team gave me an incredible car, and their confidence in me makes all the difference. To open the season like this, at Daytona, is something special.”
In addition to his MX-5 Cup success, Fletcher added another highlight by taking part in the HSR IMSA Classic, piloting the 1991 Mazda RX-7 GTO, one of the most celebrated cars in Mazda’s motorsports history.
“Driving the RX-7 was unreal,” Fletcher added. “That car represents so much of Mazda’s history, and I’m extremely grateful to Mazda Motorsports for trusting me with it. To experience that and secure a win in the MX-5 in the same week is something I’ll never forget.”
The Daytona week marked Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2026 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin season. Fletcher and McCumbee McAleer Racing now turn their focus to the Streets of St. Petersburg for Rounds 3 and 4, scheduled for February 27–March 1.
