Buras Tops All In Final MX-5 Cup Road America Practice
Sep. 23, 2006 - ELKHART LAKE, Wis. - Todd Buras, of Melbourne, Fla., was the only SCCA Pro Racing SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Hankook driver to break the 2:40 barrier Saturday morning to top the combined practice session chart in preparation for Saturday afternoon’s Round Eight qualifying session. Friday practice leader Jason Saini, of Fort Worth, Texas, was second.

Driving the No. 56 BSI Racing/Supportthem.com Buras turned a 2:39.722 (91.239 mph) on his fifth lap of the 20-minute session to top the 23-car field. The lap topped Saini’s Friday afternoon time of 2:40.030.
Saini drove his No. 28 MER/specmiata.com/Autobarn Mazda MX-5 to the second-fastest lap of today’s session, with a 2:40.221 (90.954 mph). Pratt Cole was third fastest overall, turning a best time of 2:40.283 (90.919 mph) in Saturday’s practice session, followed by Ara Malkhassian, of Houston, Texas, with a 2:40.399 (90.853 mph) and Jim Daniels, of Germantown, Tenn., with a 2:40.481 (90.807 mph).
Daniels has already clinched the inaugural MX-5 Cup Championship, and is looking for his fifth pole and win in a row to close out the season this weekend.
Qualifying is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. (CDT). All SCCA Pro Racing SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Hankook sessions can be watched via live timing and scoring on www.mx-5cup.com.
This weekend’s race will be broadcast this December on SPEED.
